2007 - Annual 'Old Boys' in the Books

The Sundevils junior rugby team played host to Akeley Wood School in April 2007 on a B.C. tour. Akeley Wood is an independent co-educational day school for some nine hundred pupils between the ages of two years nine months and eighteen. It occupies three independent sites near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, England and each of the schools is organised to meet the changing needs of the independent age groups.
The Sundevils came out hard at Akeley and a few nice tries were scored by the Sundevils in the early going. It appeared apparent that the English sid ehad perhaps underestimated the strenght of the local side. At half time the Sundevils held the lead but by end game they were edged out by the more experienced and more mature side.
As always, the weekend was about much more than just a rugby game. The visitors arrived in mid-week caught a Vancouver Giants hockey game in Vancouver and then headed on to Victoria to continuetheir tour. David and Sara Blackwell once again hosted the visiting coaches and supporters for an evening social. After the match, we hosted our new friends from across the pond at a BBQ. It was a well-attended event.
Special thanks to all the volunteers and parents who helped organize the event and BBQ. Thanks to the co-coordinating efforts of David and Sara Blackwell, Andrew and Zandra Harvey and Charly and Barry. Thnaks to the South Delta hosts and the families that billeted players and helped out with the organization and planning of the events over the weekend. The coaching staff also encouraged the SunDevils to consider Akeley Wood School if they can manage it on their tour planned for the UK.
