John Narbett - Sun Devils Rugby - Founder
Upon emigating from England, John began playing competitive rugby in Vancouver shortly after his arrival. In 1973, teaching at SDSS, he founded the Sun Devil rugby program. After guiding several touring sides and many successful teams, John retired in the 1990s. His concern for the rugby program brought John out of retirement and he recruited the current co-ordinators, who have successfully re-built the SDSS program.

Charlie Minns

Charlie Minns - Senior Sun Devils Coach
Born in Nelson, British Columbia, Charlie began playing rugby in 1963. In 1974, he started coaching and continued up until 1988. Charlie's hiatus ended in 1997, when John Narbett lured him back to coach South Delta school boys rugby. Charlie is passionate about rugby and the teams he's coached reflect his enthusiasm.

David Blackwell- Senior Coach & Co-ordinator
Born in Bristol, England, Davids Rugby Background is varied including: QEH School & Old Elizabethans, Bristol; Old Yardlians, Birmingham; Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands; Richmond RFC; Valley Vintage and SOB’s. David is currently coaching the Senior boys Team. Recently completed Level 1 Referee Course

Andrew Harvey - Junior Coach
Andrew started playing Rugby in 1973 at SDSS and was part of the first Senior Rugby Team. After the 1976 UK Tour, he became one of the founding members of Tsawwassen Rugby Club. Andrew has played rugby for BCIT, Mumbles R.C. in South Wales, and Bayside R.C. He has coached at South Delta for the past 6 years.

Barry

Barry Mitchel - Manager & Trainer
Barry grew up in Vancouver and played rugby at Magee High School, on the premier school boy sides in the province for many years. Barry recently completed the Level 2 International Rugby Board coaching program, part of the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada. Recently completed Level 1 Referee Course

Dane Young

Dane Young - 8/9 Team
Dane has coached the Grade 8s and is now Coaching the Juniors. He played for the Red Lions and recently completed the Level 2 International Rugby Board coaching program, part of the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada. Recently completed Level 1 Referee Course

 

Kevin Garvey

Kevin Garvey - Womens Coach
Kevin began playing rugby in 1976 at South Delta. He played for TRFC and Bayside in the 1st Division of the Vancouer Rugby Union and also coached a Delta U-19 boys team to a Gold Medal in the 1988 BC Summer Games. Recently, he completed the Level 2 International Rugby Board coaching program, part of the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada. Recently completed Level 1 Referee Course.

Brad Johnstone - Grade 8 Coach
Brad played his high school rugby at Shawnigan Lake. He was coached by ex- natioanl team Captain Mmark Wyatt. Recently, he completed the Level 2 International Rugby Board coaching program, part of the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada.

Bob Littlejohn - Grade 8 Coach
Bob or 'Chicken' played rugby in the Vancouver school system and later went on to play for the Trojan Rugby Football Club. After retirement, Bob helped the fledgling Tsawwassen Rugby Club as they entered the Vancouver Rugby Union. During the early years he hosted Hockey Night at Chubby's, which was a regular stop on Saturday night for the Tsawwassen boys.

Alan Dagg - Junior Coach
Alan began playing rugby back in Ireland in the late 1970s for Malahide. After emigrated to Canada, he began coaching at SDSS in 2005. Recently, he completed the Level 2 International Rugby Board coaching program, part of the National Coaching Certification Program and the Coaching Association of Canada.

Joanne Gill - Women's Coach
Joanne, a former student at SDSS, made an early attempt to start a women's rugby team at South Delta. Now she is back, helping to re-ignite the She Devils rugby program. Joanne is a Special Eduation teacher for the Delta School District and is also very active with the SDSS PAC program. She lives in Tsawwassen and her son plays for the 2008 Sundevils junior rugby team.
